I don’t think enough people realise how important cleansing is. I used to be the kind of girl who would reach for a face wipe at the end of the day to remove my makeup. I didn’t realise at the time but it was one of the reasons my skin was always breaking out. Cleansing is much more effective and leaves your skin free of impurities and removes every trace of your makeup.
Liz Earle is a well known classic British beauty brand that has been around since 1995. I heard about Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser around 15 months ago and I wanted to see what all of the fuss was about. I finally managed to get my hands on the much-loved product people love and rave about and I’ve had it for around 5 weeks now so I thought it was about time I talked about it.
The classic Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser comes in a calm pastel green bottle. It has a sheer green lid and a pump to dispense the cleanser. The cleanser is white in colour and thick and creamy in texture. It has a very fresh and earthy scent and smells mostly of Rosemary. It’s a lovely aroma which isn’t too overpowering.
To use the cleanser you simply dispense one or two pumps out onto your hand and massage gently into dry skin. You can use this cleanser on makeup free skin or over makeup. I use this once in the morning and again in the evening to remove my makeup and cleanse away the day. As this is a hot cloth cleanser, you are meant to use a special muslin cloth to remove the cleanser, but I just use a normal cotton face flannel and so do most other people and it works fine.
Once the cleanser is on your face, leave it for 60 seconds or so whilst you run your face cloth under hand-hot water. Wring out your face cloth and gently press the warm cloth onto your face and hold it there for 30 seconds, this will help to loosen the makeup and impurities on your face which makes it easier to remove.
After 30 seconds, use the face cloth in small circular motions to melt the dirt away.
I find this cleanser is perfect for removing my makeup. I usually wear around 10 products on my face and Liz Earle completely banishes them from my face with little effort. The makeup melts off my face and my skin is left feeling smooth and looking bright. I like to double cleanse as my skin is very oily and Cleanse & Polish doesn’t cause any sensitivity issues which is amazing. It’s very gentle but super effective. My skin is very oily and I get dry patches in places, but this cleanser has kept my skin balanced and has worked well in both areas. It doesn’t make my oiliness any worse and it helps to keep my dry patches at bay.
I would say the only downside is this cleanser doesn’t remove my eye makeup very well which is something I was disappointed by as I had heard this cleanser was meant to be fantastic at removing stubborn makeup. I have to really scrub at that area which is something I don’t like to do around my eyes, so I just stick to using an eye makeup remover in that area.
You can pick up a 100ml Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser for around £14.00 which isn’t that bad of a price for a cleanser that will last you a couple of months and give you smoother and clean skin. It’s suitable for all ages and all skin types and there is even a few different scents if the classic version doesn’t appeal to you.
